Having performed research and evaluation in educational settings for over 20 years, I have witnessed the stress that “doing data” has placed on staff and students. I have seen good data go bad in the wrong hands or when politicized in the name of student achievement.

With all of the data, tools, and knowledge of analytics we have in the world today, are our schools better and our students more prepared than they were 20 or 30 years ago?

How do we measure what matters? In this talk, we explore how to think more deeply about what we need to measure and why in order to achieve our vision of success.

How to Think Differently about Career and Technical Education

Perceptions of career and technical education impact participation in innovative programs that lead to high wages. Why does there continue to be a stigma around these opportunities when industries have job openings that could benefit individuals who prefer hands-on classroom and work environments? In this presentation, we explore the stigma associated with career and technical programs and offer solutions that can close the gap between perceptions and reality so more individuals can enjoy pathways to fulfilling careers.

My approach to data, measurement, and statistics topics allows for anyone to engage in the subject, learn a little, and have fun too. I can make complex concepts clear and make boring topics exciting by connecting to the audience and sharing stories and analogies to present information in a new and relatable way.
And I've been doing this for 25 years so I have a lot of experiences to draw from!
